A Century of Antics, Epics, & Escapades: The Varsity Outdoor Club 1917 – 2017

The Varsity Outdoor Club has played an incredibly significant role in the development of climbing, skiing, and mountaineering in Southwest BC. In fact, the club and its members have made a huge number of major contributors to local and international outdoor communities, led ambitious expeditions, ascended countless unclimbed peaks, pioneered classic ski traverses, and built a dozen alpine huts in the Sea to Sky region.

This publication was created to celebrate the centennial year of the Varsity Outdoor Club. The creation of this coffee table book was a tremendous team effort by club members volunteering their own time and resources to create a stunning book documenting and telling the story of the 100 years of the VOC.

This is undoubtedly the most substantial project I have ever been involved with. Our core team of around 20 volunteers sifted through 100 years worth of journals, and any other articles, reports, and stories we could find. We contacted several dozen alumni members in search of stories and personal accounts of the VOC’s rich history.

My personal involvement with the book was as an author, photo editor, and part of a small team responsible for design and layout of the book. More specifically, I was the author and layout designer of the sixth chapter, and I was responsible for the design and layout of the dust jacket (front and back covers).
